GRAND MESA NORDIC TRAILS

For those who aren’t a big fan of alpine skiing with its high-speeds and periods of waiting, then you might want to check out The Grand Mesa Nordic Council, a resource for people looking to get into cross country skiing in Colorado.

Cross Country Skiing (for those who don’t know) uses much of the same equipment as alpine skiing, but can be done on flatter trails of ground that are commonly used for hiking and snowshoeing. It’s great if you want to ski for a longer amount of time and if you love to explore rather than just have fun testing your skills at breakneck speeds.

WHERE ARE ALL THE TRAILS?

There are three prominent cross country skiing regions in Grand Mesa that are close to Grand Junction, and while they take a bit to drive to, they are totally worth the time; approximately 45 minutes.

Skyway, County Line, and Ward Lake are all great starting points for people looking for exceptional views and a low-key skiing experience, and you can find the trailheads under the corresponding buttons.

WHERE DO I GET CROSS COUNTRY SKI EQUIPMENT

There are a few places you can rent your own ski equipment in town for cross country skiing. You can buy much of this sporting equipment in the downtown area at places like the Loki Outdoor Shop or The Gear Junction.

If you want a more general place to rent from, Board and Buckle, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and REI are all located in town as well.
